Secrets of Babylon
This blue color, which gave the Ishtar Gate an unparalleled charm and beauty, rivaled the splendor of the seas and sky.
At the time of its manufacture around the sixth century BC, it needed to mix two chemicals with very accurate weights and needed a temperature of up to 900 degrees at least.. German Museum Pergamon scientists needed a modern sensitive balance to reach the accurate ratio of weights..
How did the Babylonians weigh? And how they brought the fire to 900 degrees Celsius?
The strangest thing, and perhaps chance played a role in increasing the beauty of the matter, is that the gate is decorated with 575 prominent animal shapes, including the dragon known as siroc and bulls, and this number coincides with the year of construction of the gate, which was built in 575 BC!
